KRISPY KREME DONUTS!!!!!!!!!!

DONUT EATING CONTEST FOR HURRICANE KATRINA!!!!!!!!!!!!
TUESDAY 8:30
Katrina Relief Info:

The Krispy Kreme Eating Contest is next tuesday at Lag Dining at 8:30 PM.It is sponsored by Mosaic, which is made up of four different student groups (Cornerstone, Campus Crusade, Table Talk, and Cardinal Life).

All funds raised will go directly to Habitat for Humanity Katrina Relief, and all funds will be matched two for one by outside donors. This means if you give $100, $300 will go to Habitat. Suggested teams are of three people with suggested donation of $30 per team if self-funded, and $60 per team if dorm-funded. However, any donation will do, and if you care to enter a two or one-person team, you are more than welcome!

Bring your friends!Even if they don't want to participate, they are more than welcome to join the festivities and are encouraged to cheer! We are counting on YOU to recruit teams! We suggest recruiting from your dorm/house, your friends, your clubs, your sports teams, and your classmates. Make sure to note for those who aren't super into donuts that its ok if you don't eat a million donuts (or any at all if you're really don't like donuts but want to help!).The main point is to collect donations and raise money for the victims.

Email your list of teams to MosaicKatrinaRelief@gmail.com by Sunday at 8 PM with a list of all teams recruited and the emails of the members. You will bring the money raised to the event on Tuesday.Email that same address for questions

Good cause, but bad choice of free food.

Krispy Kreme products are a health risk. They contain dangerous partially hydrogenated oils, as well as white flour and sugar.

It's great to give money, just don't eat the donuts. It would be great if lots of teams show up to support the cause, and boycott the Krispy Kremes.

Krispy Kreme is most likely donating the donuts in order to get free publicity and new innocent addicted victims, er, customers, for their health-endangering products. That's a bad tradeoff for helping hurricane victims.

Maybe Krispy Kreme victims should get PAID a lot of money to eat the donuts. Or TAXED a lot of money to pay for extra healthcare needs later on.

There is evidence that partially hydrogenated oils (trans
fats) are a major cause of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. They should be taken out of the food supply, and already have been in some European countries. Canada is about to ban them, or at least severely restrict their use.
The US is lagging, only now starting to require that they be mentioned on food labels. I suspect that someday there will be huge consumer lawsuits against food companies that use them, much like those against tobacco, asbestos, and drug companies.

For more information to support this view, do a web search on "partially hydrogenated oils". For example, http://www.recoverymedicine.com/hydrogenated_oils.htm

I'm sorry to be the one to bring this up, especially when the intentions of the organizers are so good. But when someone knows something is dangerous, it's their responsibility to speak up.

WHY IS THIS LIST GETTING REALLY RIDICULOUS.

THIS IS A FREE FOOD LIST. PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT HYDROGYNATED OILS ARE PROBABLY NOT ON THIS LIST BECAUSE THEY WOULD LIKELY HAVE TO KNOW THE INGREDIENTS OF A FOOD BEFORE THEY EAT THEM.

The kind of person who would actually take part in a donut eating contest is quite obviously not the type to care about hydrogynated oils.

In addition, virtually all packaged foods have hydrogynated oils. Please alert us the next time an event comes up if foods like crackers, breads, or anything not macrobiotic are served.
