El Centro Chicano, Stanford's Latino Community Center, is hosting a Día de los Muertos* celebration this Friday from 7-9pm. There will be food, music, student performances, and an all around good time. The event is open to the public, so I hope to see some of you there!
* Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a day long celebration that originated as a fusion of the beliefs and practices of the Catholic church (All Saints/Souls Day) with the traditions of indigenous cultures in Mexico. Families assemble altars and cook the favorite foods of their deceases loved ones and ancestors as a way to celebrate their memory. It is a very festive holiday and one of my personal favorites!
